Experience all the beauty Ireland has to offer with this getaway to glorious Donegal.
This breath-taking county promises wild landscapes blanketed in bog and heather, isolated white sandy beaches and a roughly hewn coastline. When you need a break from the elements, cosy little pubs are at hand to provide you with some hearty grub, shelter from the windy headlands and good company. Get away from it all this spring in Donegal, a county that will force you to kick back, slow down and admire the view.
We depart Crymych and catch the afternoon ferry to Rosslare, Ireland. After we disembark the ferry we make the short journey to the Maldron Hotel in Wexford.
After a hearty Irish breakfast we make our way north towards our stunning hotel, The Manor House Country Hotel and Spa, Enniskillen, with comfort stops en-route.
After breakfast we make our way to the beautiful town of Donegal - enjoy the delights of this historic town, situated at the mouth of Donegal Bay on the banks of the River Eske. There are an abundance of attractions including the pretty craft village, O'Donnell Castle and the old market place. After a coffee break and a walk around, we make our way around the coast calling at various different villages such as Killybegs and pass Slieve League, the highest marine cliffs in Europe. We also visit the interesting Glencolmcille Folk Village Museum, before returning to the Manor House.
Today we make the short journey to Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark, host to one of the finest show caves in Europe. (entry fee not included). Visitors are guided through a fascinating natural underworld while stunningly beautiful cave formations glisten all around. Prepare to be awe inspired. As you may be aware there will be some flight of stairs to contend with, if you think this may not suit you why not spend the day in Enniskillen. To make this trip that extra special, tonight, we will board the ‘Lady of the Lake’. As the sun sets over the Fermanagh hills, we are served our three course meal as we are guided in tranquillity around lower Loch Erne.
Today we make the journey north to Ireland’s most iconic visitor attractions - Giants Causeway. Flanked by the wild North Atlantic Ocean and a landscape of dramatic cliffs, for centuries the Giant’s Causeway has inspired artists, stirred scientific debate and captured the imagination of all who see it. After a morning visit here we return, calling at the small village of Bushmills. Settled on the banks of the river, you will find the oldest working distillery in Ireland. A place where family and friends have worked for generations, in a small Northern Irish village that for over 400 years has kept to the philosophy that hand crafting small batches is the way to produce beautifully smooth tasting Irish whiskey.
After a full Irish breakfast we return via Athlone and Carlow, before we board the evening ferry back to Fishguard.
The Manor House Country Hotel and Spa, Enniskillen will be our base during this beautiful break. This luxury hotel is located looking out over the beautiful Loch Ern, with two bars, full leisure facilities, and a magnificent golf course. It is said to be the perfect country retreat where you will experience a true sense of peace and tranquillity.
